PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Bozal has built its entire identity around the genuinely wild, indigenous corners of the mezcal world — agave varieties most producers overlook, distilled by methods few others still practice. This collection brings together six of the brand's most distinctive Reserva and Sacrificio-style releases, each one a genuine departure from standard Espadín-based mezcal: rare agave species that take decades to mature, an unusual Ancestral clay-pot production method, and a first-of-its-kind vegetarian take on a 200-year-old ritual tradition. Together, they offer a real tour through just how far mezcal can stretch beyond the familiar.

What's In the Collection

Bozal Guías de Calabaza Sacrificio Mezcal
Bozal's first-ever vegetarian Sacrificio. Rather than the traditional meat suspended in the still during a second distillation, this expression uses pumpkin stems (guías de calabaza), plantain, orange, pineapple, and the native herb chepiche — honoring the 200-year-old Sacrificio tradition while leaving the protein out entirely.

Bozal Mezcal Borrego Sacrificio Ensamble
A genuine twist on traditional pechuga mezcal: instead of a chicken breast, a whole leg of lamb is suspended in the still during the second distillation, alongside wild fruits and grains. Made from a blend of wild agaves, including Espadín and Barril.

Bozal Mezcal Sacatoro Reserva Ancestral
Built from Sacatoro, a rare wild agave subspecies of Espadín found on the remote hillsides of Guerrero, distilled in clay pots using the traditional Ancestral method — a genuinely hard-to-find expression even within Mexico.

Bozal Mezcal Chino Verde Reserva
Made from Chino Verde, an extremely rare, foraged wild agave from the Karwinskii family, harvested at 7 to 9 years from the Sierra Madre del Sur mountains — one of the more difficult and unusual agaves to source in all of mezcal.

Bozal Mezcal Cempasúchil Ancestral Reserva
An Espadín mezcal infused during final distillation with real Cempasúchil (Mexican marigold) and mandarin peel, honoring the flower's traditional role in Día de los Muertos — genuinely floral and citrus-forward.

Bozal Mezcal Castilla Reserva
Made from Castilla agave, a close wild cousin of Espadín, fermented in traditional Durango-style wooden vats and distilled using both clay pots and a genuinely unusual Filipino-style clay-and-wood hybrid still.
