Buffalo Trace Distillery partnered with the Chicago Rabbinical Council (cRc) to produce a trilogy of kosher-certified whiskeys: “Wheat Recipe”, “Rye Recipe” and “Straight Rye”. These whiskeys are made using the same high-quality grains and mash bills as Buffalo Trace’s standard offerings, but aged in specifically designated kosher barrels. Subsequently, the bottling lines were cleaned, no cross-contact with non-kosher spirits occurred, and the release is timed after Passover each year.
Each bottle in the set is 750 mL; while age statements are not always front-and-center, indications suggest these whiskeys are aged for around seven years.
One reviewer found the “Kosher Rye Recipe” to carry extra floral honey, vanilla-butterscotch and cinnamon spice compared to standard Buffalo Trace – subtle yet meaningful premium uplift.
Buffalo Trace’s official notes for the Straight Rye version highlight “the spice of rye, with hints of citrus and clove”, staying true to the distillery’s legacy while meeting kosher certification.
Nose: Sweet vanilla and honey, ripe stone-fruit notes and subtle cinnamon or nutmeg spice across the set; the rye-led versions bring sharper spice and citrus.
Palate: Balanced yet rich — corn sweetness, baked vanilla custard and gentle grain character in the wheat/bourbon-style; in the rye expressions expect rye-grain pepper, licorice and toasted oak.
Finish: Smooth and lingering with desirable warmth; light oak tannins, licorice or clove in the rye, and a gentle honey-vanilla fade in the wheat/bourbon style version.
