In 1608, King James I granted a license to distil whiskey in the area of Bushmills in County Antrim, Northern Ireland — an official document that makes the Old Bushmills Distillery the oldest licensed whiskey distillery in the world. More than 400 years later, whiskey is still being made in the same village beside the River Bush, by the same methods, with the same commitment to triple distillation and the same dedication to the single malt tradition that has defined the distillery since before recorded history began tracking its production.
The town and the distillery share an identity so complete that Bushmills was literally named for the mills that lined the River Bush through the village. Without the village, there would be no whiskey. Without the whiskey, there would be no village. One of Ireland's most specifically and most historically complete reciprocal relationships, built over four centuries of uninterrupted production.
Bushmills Original — the White Label, the cornerstone of the family, the whiskey whose recipe predates Prohibition — is a triple distilled blend of single malt whiskey and lighter grain whiskey, matured in both ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. Light fruit and warm spice greet the nose. Velvety vanilla and honeyed sweetness unfold on the palate. A crisp, refreshing finish carries the close. This 12-bottle case of 50ml miniatures delivers that iconic, approachable, smooth Irish character in a format made for hospitality, gifting, travel, and every occasion where a full bottle is more than the moment requires.
The Old Bushmills Distillery holds official records stretching to 1608, when the area of Bushmills in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, was granted its license to distil — the earliest documented license of any whiskey distillery still in operation anywhere in the world. The distillery sits on the banks of the River Bush in the village of Bushmills, roughly 60 miles north of Belfast and two miles from the Giant's Causeway, in a landscape whose maritime climate, rich barley-growing tradition, and pure river water have shaped the character of the whiskey produced here for generations.
In 1885, a disastrous fire destroyed the Old Bushmills Distillery, but the village pulled together, rebuilt, and returned to full production to meet soaring American demand. Today Bushmills is owned by Casa Cuervo — the Beckmann family's Mexican spirits company — and produces a range that spans from the original blended expression to single malt expressions aged in sherry casks and bourbon casks up to 21 years. Bushmills continues to distil single malt whiskey from 100% malted barley — a distinction that sets it apart from most Irish whiskey producers who pivoted to corn and other grains after the 19th-century barley tax changed the industry.
Bushmills Original is triple distilled — a third distillation that the Irish whiskey tradition specifically values for the smoothness and the purity it adds to the spirit — blending the distillery's pure single malt whiskey with a lighter grain whiskey. The blend is then matured in a combination of ex-bourbon American oak barrels and ex-sherry casks, the bourbon contributing vanilla and caramel sweetness while the sherry adds the honey and light fruit character that makes Bushmills Original immediately approachable.
Bushmills Official tasting notes:
"Smooth and versatile, Bushmills Original Irish Whiskey greets the senses with light fruit and warm spice, unfolding into velvety vanilla, honeyed sweetness, and a crisp, refreshing finish. The cornerstone of our family — an approachable whiskey matured in both bourbon and sherry casks resulting in fresh fruit and vanilla notes."
Nose
Light and fruity, with warm spice arriving almost simultaneously — the triple distillation's most directly apparent contribution in a nose of genuine cleanliness and approachability. Honey and vanilla from the bourbon cask maturation provide the warmest and the most welcoming secondary aromatics. Fresh fruit adds brightness.
Palate
Smooth and velvety from the first sip — the triple distillation process producing the soft, rounded mouthfeel that distinguishes Irish whiskey from Scottish and American expressions. Velvety vanilla carries the mid-palate sweetness. Honeyed sweetness builds with genuine warmth. Light fruit and gentle spice add the most specifically and the most characteristically Bushmills secondary flavor qualities.
Finish
Crisp, refreshing, and clean — the most specifically and the most broadly accessible finishing quality in Irish whiskey. Short to medium in length, carrying the vanilla and light fruit character to a pleasant close.

Irish Coffee — the most specifically traditional and the most classically Irish cocktail application: 1.5 oz Bushmills Original, hot coffee, brown sugar, topped with lightly whipped cream.
Bushmills Highball — 1.5 oz Bushmills Original, ginger ale or soda water, squeeze of lime. The triple distillation's smoothness carries beautifully through the long drink format.
Classic Whiskey Sour — 1.5 oz Bushmills Original, ¾ oz fresh lemon juice, ½ oz simple syrup. The light fruit and vanilla character aligns naturally with citrus in a genuinely crowd-pleasing format.
