The Cadenhead's "Enigma" 14 Year Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a captivating expression from an undisclosed Highland distillery, distilled in 2009 and bottled in early 2024. Matured in a combination of 65% refill sherry butts and 35% refill bourbon hogsheads, this whisky offers a harmonious balance of smoky and sweet flavors.
Bottled at a robust 53.9% ABV without chill filtration or added coloring, it presents a nose of bacon frazzles, vanilla custard, banana fritter, and butterscotch mousse, complemented by barley water and dried cranberry. The palate reveals notes of burning embers, candle smoke, and gorse bushes, leading to a finish of thick syrup, damp hay, flint, nutmeg, and gingerbread .
This limited release of 1,986 bottles showcases the enigmatic allure of Highland single malts, offering a complex and rewarding experience for whisky enthusiasts.
