PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The 2021 Blanc from Château Carbonnieux is a bright, poised white Bordeaux that offers excellent value while capturing the elegance and minerality of the Pessac-Léognan terroir. With crisp citrus, stone-fruit freshness and a refined texture, it presents an engaging blend of vibrancy and depth—great now and with aging potential.
Located in the Graves region of Bordeaux, Château Carbonnieux is a Grand Cru Classé estate in the Pessac-Léognan appellation. The white wine is typically a blend of approximately 65% Sauvignon Blanc and 35% Sémillon, grown on gravelly soils that deliver great drainage and expressive character.
The 2021 harvest, influenced by careful vineyard management in a cooler and more challenging vintage, focused on retaining freshness and purity. Vinification for the blanc often involves both stainless steel and barrel (or large wood-vat) fermentation, followed by around 10-12 months of ageing with partial oak influence to preserve clarity while adding texture.
Nose: Aromas of lemon zest, lime blossom, green apple, honeysuckle and a hint of white peach. There’s also a discreet mineral note—wet stone or crushed gravel—signalling the estate’s terroir.
Palate: Medium-bodied with vibrant acidity. Flavours of citrus (grapefruit, lemon), orchard fruits (pear, white peach) move into subtle stone-fruit ripeness. A soft oaky texture and faint creamy note from ageing add richness without overwhelming. The finish brings a saline, mineral thread and a gentle herbal/grass-leaf note.
Finish: Clean and refreshing, marked by lingering citrus peel, light stone-fruit, a delicate mineral echo and crisp structure that keeps it lively and elegant rather than heavy.
