Cointreau is a type of triple sec (an orange-flavoured liqueur) produced in Saint-Barthélemy-d'Anjou, France. It is drunk as an apéritif and digestif, and is a component of several well-known cocktails.

Classic Cointreau Margarita
One of the world's favourite and most enduring cocktails, synonymous with Mexico and its stunning coastline. Part of its popularity is based on its simplicity, employing just tequila, Cointreau/triple sec, lime juice, and salt and lime zest for the garnish.
NOTE, THE BLACKWELL 321 RULE for MARGARITAS: They call is the "classic 3-2-1 ratio" for making a margarita is 3 parts tequila, 2 parts a quality orange liqueur of some description (Ferrand, Rhum JM), and 1 part FRESH SQUEEZED lime juice. This is your starting point—adjust for taste. Adding more tequila almost never hurts.
