PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Comisario Añejo is the long-aged centerpiece of a highland tequila brand built around estate-grown agave. The 100% Blue Weber agave is grown at the family’s own fields in Arandas, in the Los Altos “Golden Triangle” of Jalisco, and harvested at 8 to 9 years old, so the sugars are fully developed. Cooked in stainless steel autoclaves, fermented slowly, distilled (NOM 1499), and then aged 23 months in American oak whiskey barrels (the brand’s page also cites Cabernet barrels), it’s pushed close to the top of the añejo category, where most producers stop at the 12-month minimum. The brand says the result is “a slow unfolding expression of patience, craftsmanship, and refined character.” It’s additive-free and bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof).
The brand’s tasting notes: “The nose opens with warm aromas of caramelized agave, toasted vanilla, and golden oak, layered delicately with notes of dark honey, roasted cacao, orange peel, and subtle baking spice.” Importer notes describe “a complex layering of buttercream, papaya, caramel and nougat” on the nose, “a supple, medium body with a smooth feel and flavors of grilled peppers, minerality, and a hint of cocoa,” and a finish that is “exquisitely long, with mocha and pepper spice with an ending warmth.”
The recognition is considerable. The Enthusiast Report scored it 96 points in December 2025, ahead of Fuenteseca Reserva 12-Year (94) and Don Julio 1942 (92), calling its notes “silk in motion”: “Comisario’s Añejo layers roasted agave with warm caramel, cocoa husk, and a whisper of toasted oak. The texture is velvety and composed, finishing with a long, amber glow that invites contemplation rather than haste.” The brand lists a rating of 98 points and a Platinum award. (The brand doesn’t name the source of the 98 and Platinum, so confirm before featuring it.) The TAG Global Spirits Awards gave it Gold, noting “scents of agave, oak, honey, peach, and crème brûlée with supporting notes of baking spices, toffee, treacle, and caramel.”
This pack holds ten 50ml minis, 500ml in total. Each mini pours about one 1.7-ounce serving, which makes it ideal for tastings, tequila flights, gift bags, wedding and party favors, bar sampling programs, and anyone who wants to try an aged highland tequila before committing to a full bottle. Serve it neat in a copita or a snifter, at room temperature, so the caramel and cacao come through.
