PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Comisario is a highland tequila built around a simple idea: grow your own agave and let it get old. The 100% Blue Weber agave is estate grown in Arandas, in the heart of Jalisco’s Los Altos “Golden Triangle,” and allowed to sweeten for 7 to 10 years before harvest, “ensuring the highest quality sugar concentration.” The piñas are cooked in stainless steel autoclaves, crushed, and fermented slowly and naturally with a special yeast before distillation, at the distillery registered as NOM 1499. The brand describes its tequilas as “100% all natural, estate-grown, small-batch, handcrafted” and additive-free, and the Blanco is unaged, bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof). Comisario calls it “a remarkably refined expression of pure highland agave.”
The awards are the headline. Comisario Blanco has been recognized with Double Gold medals in 2021 and 2023 at the Cigar & Spirits Magazine World Spirits Competition, the Spirits of Mexico Competition, and the Latin America World Spirits Competition, where it was also named Best Blanco Tequila. (The brand’s site separately lists Double Golds at the World Spirit Awards in both years, plus a Platinum.)
The brand’s tasting notes: “On the palate, Comisario Blanco delivers a luxurious and balanced texture that unfolds with sweet roasted agave, fresh lime zest, vanilla cream, and subtle earthy spice. The finish is long, clean, and expressive, leaving lingering notes of sweet agave, citrus blossom, and delicate pepper.” A retailer adds “beautiful aromatics featuring lime zest and honeysuckle, with layers of pepper, earth and agave,” and a palate that is “very viscous... with a rich creaminess of vanilla, orange blossom and spice notes.” A panel-style note carried by importers reads: “Aromas of spun honey, waxy pear and apple, roasted pepper, and delicate herbs. A soft, silky entry leads to a delicate, dryish light-to-medium body with dried apple, mineral, yellow pepper, and acacia honey flavors. Finishes with a long, elegant, gentle spicy fade. A superb sipping tequila.” A customer reviewer wrote, “huge nose of fruit and floral. Light spice on finish. Not sweetened.”
It’s a soft, honeyed, citrusy, creamy-textured blanco that works neat or on the rocks and also holds up in margaritas and palomas, a good fit for customers who want a rounder, smoother highland blanco, and for anyone who looks for medals on the label.
