PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Del Maguey Mezcal VIDA de Muertos is a vibrant, higher-proof celebration of mezcal tradition, crafted to honor the spirit of Día de los Muertos. Richer and more expressive than the standard VIDA, it delivers a beautifully balanced profile of tropical fruit, smoke, herbs, and spice with a creamy texture and elevated intensity. Both culturally meaningful and highly versatile, it is equally compelling as a sipping mezcal or a premium cocktail foundation.
Origins & Craftsmanship
VIDA de Muertos is produced in San Luis del Río, Oaxaca, one of the most iconic mezcal-producing villages, by the family of Paciano Cruz Nolasco, longtime partners of Del Maguey.
This expression is inspired by traditional batches distilled each autumn and shared locally during Día de los Muertos celebrations, making it both a cultural tribute and a seasonal style expression.
Crafted from 100% Espadín agave, the mezcal follows fully traditional methods:
Underground pit roasting of agave for smoky depth
Natural fermentation in open-air wooden vats
Double distillation in small copper stills heated by wood fire
Unlike standard VIDA (typically 40–42% ABV), VIDA de Muertos is bottled at a more robust 45% ABV, offering greater intensity and texture.
It is also often described as a more select, center-cut style distillate, emphasizing purity and balance while maintaining the accessibility that made VIDA famous.
Critics Reviews
There are no widely published professional critic scores from major spirits publications for VIDA de Muertos.
However, industry commentary consistently positions it as a more refined, higher-proof evolution of the original VIDA, praised for its balance of fruit, smoke, and herbal complexity and its versatility in both sipping and cocktails.
