Domaine Michel Gros 2022 Nuits Saint George Rouge

"The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Village has a floral bouquet with touches of white flowers infusing the red and black fruit, showing a bit of reduction at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with a pliant entry, pure red fruit with veins of blueberry, the 30% new oak neatly integrated and lending a smooth veneer on the finish. Fine." Vinous 90 Points

This cuvée is made up of four parcels within the northern region of Nuits-Saint-Georges: Les Athées which is intensely dark red and deep soils situated on the alluvial deposits of the Meuzin valley; Les Lavières, a place where flat stones called laves can be found; Les Bas de Combe, a vineyard area located just at the limit of Vosne Romanée at the top part of the Réas Valley; and La Perrière-Noblet, perrière (meaning quarry) is located on a steep slope of hard limestone. The wine is aged 18 months in French oak barrels, of which 30-50% is new. 

Aromatically the wine is surprisingly savory with sea spray, dried herbs, and tart cranberry sauce. On the palate, the fruit is a combination of barely ripe red and blackberries, as well as stony minerality.
