PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Bottled in Bond carries genuine historical weight — America's first consumer protection law, enacted specifically to guarantee authenticity and transparency in an era when whiskey adulteration was rampant. Doc Swinson's built its entire brand ethos around that same principle, and this rye is a direct continuation of it: "Bottled In Bond was the first consumer protection law in the United States," the company explains. "Recently this tradition has found reemergence in the American whiskey industry, as transparency can be hard to find sometimes. We at Doc Swinson's strive to give you transparency on all of our whiskeys so that you know exactly what you are getting."

The whiskey is sourced from MGP in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, from a genuinely bold 95% rye, 5% malted barley mash bill — a recipe that, on paper, suggests a sharp, aggressive whiskey. Aged a full seven years in new American oak, bottled by Doc Swinson's in Washington State, the reality turns out to be something considerably more refined. As Doc Swinson's own copy puts it directly: "with a mashbill that suggests sharp intensity, the whiskey instead delivers balance and sweetness as well as composure. It's proof that time and patience can reshape rye whiskey in ways that are compelling and don't feel contrived or gimmickry... this bottle offers both enjoyment and insight — a whiskey that doesn't merely survive its mashbill, but rises above it."

The Whiskey Wash's independent review found it genuinely compelling: "rustic country bread was the first image that came to mind when I nosed this rye. It was intriguing with plenty of cherry cola and toast notes. I picked up aromas of puffed grain cereal and yogurt covered raisins... this is easily the most complex of the lineup as well as the most harmonious. I love the warming spice notes, but particularly enjoyed the more intriguing aromas that made this more than just another amped up MGP." Bin Ends' extended tasting describes "maple nut fudge, chocolate cereal, spiced nuts, deep-fried pickle, and caramel buttercream" on the nose, developing into "warm honey, fresh yeast, clove, dried orange, candied chestnuts, orange zest, Luxardo cherries, gingerbread cookies, and whipped cream" on the palate, closing "long and warming with a dash of bitterness that builds, featuring mango chutney on raisin rye toast, chocolate coconut macaroon, and hints of old oak and leather." Tastings.com's own tasting found "a brilliantly rich, suave, and satisfying Bottled in Bond Rye that hits all of the high notes as it sweeps you off your feet." This is genuinely well-crafted, patiently matured rye — proof, as Doc Swinson's puts it, that time really can reshape a whiskey's identity.

Origins & Craftsmanship

Doc Swinson's 7 Year Old Bottled in Bond Straight Rye Whiskey is sourced from MGP (Midwest Grain Products) in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and bottled by Doc Swinson's in Washington State. Made from a mash bill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley, the whiskey ages a full seven years in new American oak before bottling.

The whiskey adheres to the strict Bottled in Bond designation — America's first consumer protection law — meaning it must be the product of one distilling season, aged a minimum of four years in a federally bonded warehouse, and bottled at exactly 100 proof. Bottled at 50% ABV / 100 proof, 750ml.

Critics Reviews

No formal numerical critic score from a major spirits publication is confirmed for this product at this time, though Tastings.com has independently reviewed it favorably.

Suzanne Bayard, The Whiskey Wash (extended independent review):
"We review Doc Swinson's Bottled In Bond Straight Rye, a seven-year blend of straight Indiana rye whiskeys. This bonded rye is a moderate amber in color. Rustic country bread was the first image that came to mind when I nosed this rye. It was intriguing with plenty of cherry cola and toast notes. I picked up aromas of puffed grain cereal and yogurt covered raisins. This is easily the most complex of the lineup as well as the most harmonious. Like several other Doc Swinsons that I tasted together, this was subtle on the nose but built in complexity with time and on the palate. I love the warming spice notes, but particularly enjoyed the more intriguing aromas that made this more than just another amped up MGP. It's certainly worth your time and consideration."

Tastings.com (extended review):
"Aromas and flavors of maple nut fudge, chocolate cereal, spiced nuts and deep fried pickle, and caramel buttercream with a silky, vibrant, medium-to-full body and a warming, very long finish with notes of mango chutney on raisin rye toast, chocolate coconut macaroon, and old oak and leather. A brilliantly rich, suave, and satisfying Bottled in Bond Rye that hits all of the high notes as it sweeps you off your feet."

Doc Swinson's (official brand statement):
"Doc Swinson's Bottled in Bond Straight Rye Whiskey is a standout example of patience paying off. With a mashbill that suggests sharp intensity, the whiskey instead delivers balance and sweetness as well as composure. It's proof that time and patience can reshape rye whiskey in ways that are compelling and don't feel contrived or gimmickry. For experienced rye drinkers willing to look past the assumptions of the mashbill, this is a whiskey that doesn't merely survive its mashbill, but rises above it."
