PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Dos Padres — Spanish for "two fathers" — is a genuinely uncommon experiment even by Doc Swinson's own adventurous standards: finishing bourbon in casks that previously aged tequila. As the brand's own copy explains, the relationship usually runs the opposite direction — "most aged tequilas are aged in barrels previously used to age bourbon, imparting vanilla and oak notes" — but genuine tequila-to-bourbon finishing is genuinely rare. Doc Swinson's own wood management team sought out exceptional casks that had specifically been used to age Extra Añejo tequila — the longest-aged, most refined tier of tequila production — before finishing their own Blender's Cut Straight Bourbon Whiskey inside them.
The base bourbon blends two mash bills — 60% corn/36% rye/4% malted barley and 75% corn/21% rye/4% malted barley — aged a minimum of five years in American white oak, before finishing in those ex-Extra Añejo casks for a period of four to eight months, depending on the specific cask. That genuinely unusual finishing choice pulls the bourbon in a direction most American whiskey never goes, layering real agave-driven sweetness and citrus brightness onto a classic bourbon foundation.
The brand's own tasting notes describe the result as "melon, tangerine, oak, white pepper, and soft leather," calling it "a complex, yet approachable, pour" — genuinely "a one-of-a-kind whiskey" within the wider world of bourbon. A separate official description details "bright citrus, pepper, vanilla, and caramel with agave syrup in the finish," while another retailer's copy describes "a deep fusion of caramel, vanilla, toasted oak, and dark chocolate with a subtle hint of dried fruit, spice, and a touch of agave sweetness from the Añejo cask." On the palate, the bourbon's "classic caramel and vanilla notes intertwine harmoniously with the agave's herbal undertones, creating a complex and dynamic flavor profile," with each sip offering "a journey through layers of sweetness, spice, and a whisper of tequila's characteristic zest." This is genuinely distinctive, limited-release whiskey — real crossover appeal for both bourbon drinkers and tequila enthusiasts, from a brand that's made a habit of exploring finishing techniques few other distilleries ever attempt.
Doc Swinson's Exploratory Cask Series Dos Padres Straight Bourbon Whiskey is a blend of two mash bills — 60% corn/36% rye/4% malted barley and 75% corn/21% rye/4% malted barley — Doc Swinson's own Blender's Cut bourbon, aged a minimum of five years in American white oak. The bourbon then finishes in genuine ex-Extra Añejo tequila casks for a period of four to eight months, a deliberately rare finishing choice within American whiskey production. This is a limited release, available in select markets.

Doc Swinson's (official brand tasting note):
"We rarely see other spirits aged in tequila casks, and in Doc Swinson's tradition of seeking out unique flavors, we thought we'd give it a shot. We chose some exceptional casks that had previously been used to age extra Añejo tequila before finishing our Blender's Cut straight bourbon whiskey in them. As a result, we discovered notes of melon, tangerine, oak, white pepper, and soft leather that made for a complex, yet approachable, pour."
The Barrel Tap (extended tasting note):
"Nose: Bright citrus. Palate: Pepper, vanilla, and caramel. Finish: Long with agave syrup on the finish."
ForWhiskeyLovers.com (extended tasting note):

On the palate, the bourbon's classic caramel and vanilla notes intertwine harmoniously with the agave's herbal undertones, creating a complex and dynamic flavor profile. Each sip offers a journey through layers of sweetness, spice, and a whisper of tequila's characteristic zest."
