Dom Pérignon’s artist collaborations make its bottles collectibles as much as wines, and for the 2026 end-of-year edition, the house worked with British artist Damien Hirst. Hirst’s “Kaleidoscope” artwork dresses the bottle and the gift box in a deep blue, which the house links to infinity and spirituality, with the Dom Pérignon shield repeating across the surface, a black “Limited Edition” neck collar carrying Hirst’s signature, and a full-pattern box. For Dom Pérignon and Hirst, “assemblage lies at the heart of creation,” and this edition is “rooted in a common language of tension and balance, between heritage and reinvention.”
The wine itself is the Vintage 2018, the same Champagne as the standard release, a blend of 54% Chardonnay and 46% Pinot Noir, disgorged in March 2024. It is a landmark vintage for the house: a dry, sunny year with Dom Pérignon’s earliest-ever harvest (August 17, in Ambonnay) and the first declared vintage of Chef de Cave Vincent Chaperon, drawn from eighteen Grand Cru villages plus plots in Hautvillers. The house describes the 2018 as “broader, deeper, longer,” and pairs it with the Rosé Vintage 2010 as two sides of the same story, “one solar and taut, the other more intimate and shadowed.”
James Suckling scored it 99 Points and named it #95 in his Top 100 World Wines of 2025: “Very floral aromas with jasmine, honeysuckle, lemons and subtle apples. Lavender as well. The medium-bodied palate has super-integrated bubbles, a touch of fine phenolics and a racy, lively finish. Weightless and refined for the vintage. The aftertaste includes ginger, dried apples, lychees, bitter lemons and minerals. 54% chardonnay and 46% pinot noir. Dosage 4.5 g/L.” He speculated that it might herald “a new style for Dom Pérignon.” Other reviewers noted that “the 2018 Dom Pérignon is explosive, bright and so vibrant in the glass. Medium in body, with layers of understated depth, the 2018 dazzles from start to finish,” with “lemon peel, chalk, mint and white pepper” opening with coaxing, and “a Dom Pérignon of unreal precision and class.” Another found “a sense of finesse to this understated Champagne, which leads with minerally smoke and chalk accents on the nose before flavors of black cherry, lemon pâte de fruit, brioche, grilled nuts and pickled ginger come to the fore.” A third described a year “born of a dry, solar year,” “a lighter-footed, less concentrated rendition” than the 2017, with “clementine, fresh apricot and cardamom, mingling with notes of nectarine, iris and freshly baked bread.” The house’s own notes find “tropical notes of golden kiwi and mango” with “greener touches reminiscent of summer salad greens, ivy and balsamic plants,” a “generous and fresh” palette.
It’s ready to drink now, with the structure for many years of cellaring. Serve it at 9-11°C, with oysters, roast duck, or subtly spiced food. The Hirst edition is a collector’s piece and a spectacular gift.
