Dom Pérignon believes a great vintage reaches its first peak after roughly eight years on the lees, the first Plénitude (P1), and a second peak after roughly the same amount of time again, the “deuxième plénitude,” or P2. The 2008 Dom Pérignon P2 is that second peak: the same celebrated vintage held on its lees for about fifteen years, under cork rather than crown cap, and disgorged in March 2024 at a dosage of 5 g/L. It’s the same wine as the standard 2008 release, but with seven more years of contact with the lees, which gives it a depth, richness, and complexity the original didn’t yet have. As the Wine Advocate’s Kristaps Karklins put it: “A wine I’m inclined to call ‘long-range,’ the 2008 Dom Pérignon Plénitude 2, an equal blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, has fulfilled its considerable promise.”
The 2008 vintage was always destined for this. It was a year of two halves: a cool, damp, gray first half through August, then a warmer, brighter second half with high atmospheric pressure, with a late harvest in the second half of September. The long, cool beginning of the season left a “seam of acidity” that, in the words of the World of Fine Wine, “persists and upholds a structure that does not stint on either the horizontal or the vertical elements.” Current Chef de Cave Vincent Chaperon, who succeeded Richard Geoffroy in 2018 after working with him for more than a decade, calls the P2 2008 a “lighthouse” for its energy. The wine is an equal blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from a core of about 300 hectares owned by LVMH and allocated to Dom Pérignon. Chaperon explained the goal of the second plénitude: “The challenge with Geoffroy was to bring back some of the amplitude, flesh and umami, and we’ve succeeded.” The Wine Advocate concluded that it ranks “among the greatest achievements of Richard Geoffroy,” the house’s former cellar master.
Critics gave it some of the highest scores in the house’s history. Vinous’s Antonio Galloni scored it 100 Points: “The original release of the 2008 was a total knockout; now, some years later, the P2 edition takes all of its inherent qualities and amplifies them, while also adding new layers of complexity. This is unforgettably profound.” Wine Spectator scored it 98: “A statuesque Champagne, with a creamy viscosity to the mousse as it wraps around a frame of chiseled acidity. Crème de cassis, grilled macadamia nut, warm fig, tangerine peel, pastry cream and candied ginger notes are a rich and finely-detailed weave of flavor that glides across the palate. A beauty, echoing fruit, spice and pastry notes and an underlying streak of salinity on the long, long finish. Drink now through 2048.” Decanter also scored it 98, finding “beautiful aromas of pure red strawberry and bergamot with some darker mocha notes emerging,” and “a time-softened, ultra-silky mousse, with new details of umami savour tucked in subtly to the overall impression of glacial freshness.” The Wine Advocate scored it 97+, calling it “more energetic and incisive than the 2002 Plénitude 2 was on release.” Decanter noted that “the extra seven years of ageing on lees under cork versus the original Dom Pérignon 2008 release has wrapped up all the year’s innate tension and brightness in an unabashedly decadent, enveloping richness of toasted nuts, fresh dough and gentle oyster cream, although the precision and integrity of the vintage is absolutely present too,” and described it as “a very grown-up Dom Pérignon.”
This is one of the most sought-after Champagnes of the decade, and a landmark bottle for a major milestone. The World of Fine Wine expects a third, final parcel to follow around seven years from now as the P3. Drinking now through 2048.

Wine Spectator — 98 Points:

Decanter — 98 Points:
“There are beautiful aromas of pure red strawberry and bergamot with some darker mocha notes emerging, both Chardonnay linearity and a surprisingly fragrant Pinot finding a perfect equilibrium. The palate carries the buzzing acidity of 2008 on a time-softened, ultra-silky mousse, with new details of umami savour tucked in subtly to the overall impression of glacial freshness. Magical, showing floral perfumes of jasmine, lavender and orange blossoms. A very grown-up Dom Pérignon.”
Kristaps Karklins, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate — 97+ Points (December 2025):
“A wine I’m inclined to call ‘long-range,’ the 2008 Dom Pérignon Plénitude 2 — an equal blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, disgorged in March 2024 with a dosage of five grams per liter — has fulfilled its considerable promise. If the 1996 Plénitude 2 was a success at Dom Pérignon, then the 2008 Plénitude 2 appears to surpass that, ranking among the greatest achievements of Richard Geoffroy, the house’s former cellar master. All in all, it is more energetic and incisive than the 2002 Plénitude 2 was on release, and anyone fortunate enough to secure a bottle will have no difficulty finishing it.”
The Buyer (Vincent Chaperon):
“A ‘lighthouse’ thanks to its striking energy... It is citrusy, toasty and mineral with precision and a sensation of lively energy.”
