Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul have spent years fielding a very specific complaint: fans kept confusing their Dos Hombres mezcal for tequila. Rather than keep correcting people, the Breaking Bad co-stars decided to just make the tequila too. Following the same blueprint that built Dos Hombres mezcal — nothing but 100% Blue Weber agave and mountain spring water, completely free of additives or coloring — the pair evaluated seven different Jalisco distilleries before settling on Tequilera Tap in Amatitán, the same house behind respected labels like Cazcanes, Inspiro, and Tres Agaves. They also managed something genuinely notable: coaxing Maestro Tequilero Julio Cova, the man originally responsible for Cazcanes, out of nearly 40 years of retirement specifically to build Dos Hombres tequila from scratch.
"We did a great deal of research, visited multiple sites and fell in love with the people, products and craftsmanship at Tequilera Tap Distillery," said co-founder Bryan Cranston. Aaron Paul added: "following a fun and expansive tasting process, we landed on a tequila that is smooth, approachable and beautifully balanced. It captures the spirit, energy and experience we want people to feel with every pour." The Reposado takes that same base spirit — cooked using a blended process of roughly 75% autoclave and 25% traditional stone oven, fermented in open air — and rests it four months in a genuinely specific, notable barrel source: ex-bourbon casks from Four Roses. According to the official description, "the reposado picks up vanilla and baking spice flavors from the American oak barrel that previously held bourbon," adding a richer, lightly oaked character while staying silky and easy to drink.
Cranston has been candid that the whole project was built around the spirit itself rather than around cocktails: "the foundation of the spirit has got to be there, so we didn't make any cocktails as we were searching for what would become Dos Hombres tequila" — though he's quick to add "you can't go wrong mixing this up in a Paloma or Margarita." The Blanco, released a few months ahead of this Reposado, drew genuinely strong early reviews — Forbes called it "shockingly solid," with "earthy complexities" and a nose "brimming with vegetal, peppery elements typical to lowland offerings," the palate delivering "surprise in the form of funky tropical fruits, dusted in cinnamon and sage." Since the Reposado is a genuinely brand-new release, independent critical coverage is still catching up, but the same distillery, the same maestro tequilero, and the same additive-free philosophy carry directly through. An Añejo is already planned for early 2027, completing the full lineup.
Dos Hombres Reposado Tequila is produced by Dos Hombres, the agave spirits company co-founded in 2019 by actors Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, best known for playing Walter White and Jesse Pinkman on Breaking Bad. The company began as a mezcal brand, and Constellation Brands took a minority stake in 2021. In April 2026, Dos Hombres announced its expansion into tequila, launching Blanco on May 1, 2026, followed by this Reposado in July.
The tequila is produced at Tequilera Tap Distillery (NOM 1614) in Amatitán, Jalisco, under Maestro Tequilero Julio Cova, who returned from nearly 40 years of retirement specifically to lead production — Cova previously built the respected Cazcanes brand at the same facility, which also produces Inspiro, Tres Agaves, and fellow celebrity label Pantalones. Made from 100% Blue Weber agave and mountain spring water, with no additives or coloring, the tequila is cooked using a blended process of approximately 75% autoclave and 25% traditional stone oven, followed by open-air fermentation. The Reposado rests four months in ex-bourbon barrels sourced specifically from Four Roses Bourbon, developing vanilla and baking spice character. Bottled at 40% ABV.
No formal independent critic review is confirmed for the Reposado specifically at this time — a very recent 2026 release. For context, the companion Blanco expression received early praise:
Forbes (Brad Japhe, on the Blanco, sister expression):
"We tasted the new Blanco and were impressed by its earthy complexities. The nose brims with vegetal, peppery elements typical to lowland offerings. But the palate supplies surprise in the form of funky tropical fruits, dusted in cinnamon and sage."
Yahoo Shopping (on the Blanco, sister expression):
"Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul's New $40 Tequila is Shockingly Solid... poured into a tasting glass, the tequila has a bright, citrusy and floral aroma. Orange peel and lemon dominate with a zesty, none-too-sweet zing, pairing with gentle hints of marigold flower and springtime mist."
Bryan Cranston, Co-Founder:
"We did a great deal of research, visited multiple sites and fell in love with the people, products and craftsmanship at Tequilera Tap Distillery."
Aaron Paul, Co-Founder:
"Following a fun and expansive tasting process, we landed on a tequila that is smooth, approachable and beautifully balanced. It captures the spirit, energy and experience we want people to feel with every pour."
Official / Men's Journal (production description):
"The reposado picks up vanilla and baking spice flavors from the American oak barrel that previously held bourbon."
Nose
Vanilla and baking spice lead, drawn directly from the genuine Four Roses ex-bourbon barrels, layered over the base tequila's natural cooked agave character.
Palate
A richer, lightly oaked character develops over the Blanco's inherent smoothness, with agave sweetness meeting warm barrel-driven spice — silky and approachable throughout.
Finish
Smooth and easy, closing with lingering vanilla and gentle oak warmth reflecting the four-month bourbon barrel maturation.
