PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Rye had taken a back seat to bourbon at Heaven Hill for decades — Elijah Craig itself debuted in 1986 as a bourbon-only brand, and it took more than three decades before a rye sibling was even added to the lineup, let alone one bottled at full barrel proof. That changed in September 2025, when Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Rye finally arrived with its inaugural Batch A925, a 108-proof, 12-year-3-month release that went on to be named Whisky Advocate's 2025 Whisky of the Year. Batch B526 is the third release in that fast-growing series — the second batch of 2026, following January's A126 — and it arrives with genuinely serious credentials of its own: 10 years and 8 months of age, bottled straight from the barrel, uncut and non-chill filtered, at a robust 115.6 proof.

One bottle per customer, please.

Built from Elijah Craig's traditional "Kentucky style" rye mash bill — 51% rye, 35% corn, and 14% malted barley, a recipe that leans on corn's sweetness to balance rye's characteristic spice rather than leaning into a pure, aggressive spice bomb — Batch B526 delivers rich aromas of caramel, toasted oak, cinnamon, orange peel, and baking spice, layered with dried fruit and herbal rye notes. The palate builds through toffee, brown sugar, dark fruit, and black pepper, with charred oak and warm spice carrying real weight in a thick, genuinely oily mouthfeel. Caramelized sugar, cinnamon, clove, and dark cherry round out a mid-palate that stays remarkably balanced despite the whiskey's considerable proof, closing on a long, warming finish of lingering rye spice, oak, and brown sugar — full barrel-proof intensity from start to finish.

Every batch in this series is genuinely unique by design: the label discloses its own specific proof, age, and batch code (the "B526" itself decodes directly — second release of the year, month 5, year 2026), and no two releases are identical. Following the extraordinary reception of the inaugural A925 batch, Batch B526 arrives with real expectations attached — a mature, full-strength expression of Kentucky rye whiskey built for serious collectors and rye enthusiasts who want to taste exactly what nearly eleven years in new charred oak, bottled without a drop of dilution, actually delivers.

Origins & Craftsmanship

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Rye is produced by Heaven Hill Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, and represents the brand's first expansion of its celebrated Barrel Proof program beyond bourbon. The inaugural release, Batch A925, debuted in September 2025 at 108 proof with a 12-year, 3-month age statement, and was named Whisky Advocate's 2025 Whisky of the Year in its very first year on the market. Following that reception, Elijah Craig committed to releasing Barrel Proof Rye three times annually — January, May, and September — mirroring the release cadence already established for the brand's Barrel Proof Bourbon line.

Batch B526 is the third overall release in the series and the second of 2026, following January's Batch A126. Distilled from Elijah Craig's traditional Kentucky-style rye mash bill of 51% rye, 35% corn, and 14% malted barley, the whiskey matured for 10 years and 8 months in new charred oak barrels before being drawn directly from the barrel for bottling — uncut, unfiltered, and non-chill filtered — at its full natural proof of 57.8% ABV / 115.6 proof. As with every Barrel Proof Rye release, the batch code itself carries specific information: the first letter denotes the release order for that calendar year, the following digit indicates the release month, and the final two digits indicate the year — B526 decoding directly to the second release of 2026, in May.

Tasting Profile

Nose
Caramel, toasted oak, and cinnamon lead, joined by orange peel and baking spice. Herbal rye notes and dried fruit add complexity, alongside molasses, stewed fruit, and nutmeg — a rich, layered opening that reflects nearly eleven years in new charred oak.

Palate
Toffee, brown sugar, and dark fruit carry the entry, joined by black pepper and charred oak. Caramelized sugar, cinnamon, clove, and dark cherry build through the mid-palate, with a thick, genuinely oily mouthfeel and warm spice carrying real weight — bold and spicy without ever losing balance despite the whiskey's considerable proof.

Finish
Long and warming, closing with lingering rye spice, oak, and brown sugar, carrying the full intensity of true barrel proof. Butterscotch and rye spice linger well after the sip — a finish built for slow, deliberate sipping.
