Fid Street holds a genuinely rare distinction: it's the first gin ever created on Maui, and only the second in all of Hawaii since Prohibition. The name itself pays homage to a real historic street in Honolulu, tied to the 19th-century arrival of English ships in Honolulu Harbor, which brought a strong Victorian influence to the islands — a fitting nod for a gin built specifically to bridge old English London Dry style with contemporary American craft technique. Crafted at Hali'imaile Distilling Company on Maui, part of the LeVecke portfolio, Fid Street is distilled in small batches using genuinely unique glass stills — an uncommon choice that lets distillers monitor the process visually while avoiding any metallic contact with the spirit.
The botanical bill runs eleven ingredients deep, blending classic gin staples — juniper, orange and lemon rinds, coriander, cardamom, fennel, grains of paradise, orris root, cedar leaf, and angelica — with genuinely local Hawaiian character from Maui Gold pineapple, lavender, and hibiscus. Maui Gold pineapple in particular is prized for its exceptionally high sugar content, though the finished gin carries no distinct pineapple flavor — instead, that natural sweetness contributes real smoothness to the overall profile.
This exact gin has earned a genuinely impressive sweep of independent recognition: a Double Gold Medal at the 2024 SIP Awards — the largest all-consumer-judged blind spirits competition in the country — alongside a Silver Medal at the 2024 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, a Gold Medal at the 2024 L.A. Spirits Awards, and a 90-point score from the Beverage Testing Institute. As The Liquor Barn's own copy puts it, this places Fid Street "among the most decorated craft gins produced in Hawaii," concluding "the quality here is serious, not just novelty." The award tasting note itself describes "citrus peel and fresh juniper on the nose" giving "way to a crisp palate of coriander, lemongrass, and herbs, finishing oily and spicy with lingering citrus zest." CaskCartel's tasting confirms "aromatic fresh-cut floral and citrus bouquet with a hint of forest air" on the nose, developing into "sweet, dry, and floral, with mint and fresh cracked black pepper" on the palate, closing "clean with citrus and fading juniper." This is genuinely well-crafted, distinctly Hawaiian gin — real provenance and real recognition behind a bottle that stands genuinely apart from traditional European gin styles.
