PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Il Bergantino is genuinely the flagship wine of Bricco Mondalino, produced entirely from 100% Barbera grown on the estate's finest and oldest vines — nearly fifty years old, planted with south-facing exposure on calcareous marl soil at 300 meters elevation, in Vignale Monferrato's Monferrato Casalese district. Mauro Gaudio, who owns and runs the estate, has built the winery's reputation around exactly this kind of careful, terroir-driven approach — "Bricco" means the highest point of the vineyard in Piedmont dialect, and Mondalino is the hamlet the estate calls home.

The 2019 vintage macerates on the skins for 21 days, then ages a full 15 months in new French barrique and tonneaux, followed by six months further in bottle before release — a genuinely serious aging regime that showcases just how well Barbera, a grape often thought of as light and simple, can handle real oak. The Wine-Searcher aggregated critics average lands at 88/100, with vintage reviewers finding it "concentrated, full-bodied and opulent."
