Gehricke takes its name from a genuinely personal source — August Sebastiani, a fourth-generation member of one of California's oldest wine families and president of 3 Badge Beverage Corporation, named the brand after a real, forgotten road from his own Sonoma childhood, one of the dusty routes that led to overlooked vineyards and properties he remembers exploring as a kid. Winemaker Alex Beloz, born and raised in the Chicago area, has spent two decades rooted in Sonoma wine, crafting this Chardonnay from fruit grown in Russian River Valley — one of California's most celebrated cool-climate Chardonnay appellations, where warm summer days give way to fog-driven, chilly nights that let the fruit ripen slowly while retaining real acidity.
We don't have independently published tasting notes specific to this 2024 vintage yet, so rather than borrow language from a different year, we'll let this particular vintage speak for itself once it's open. For genuine house-style context, recent vintages of this exact wine have consistently shown real richness and tropical character: the winemaker's own notes describe "aromas of fresh spring flowers" intermingling "with hints of ripe melons, tropical fruits, and baking spices," developing on the palate into "notes of mango, guava, white peach and grapefruit" layered "with touches of fresh lemon tart, dried coconut, and roasted macadamia nuts," closing with "a smooth texture and vibrant acidity" through "a long crisp finish." The Tasting Panel scored the 2021 vintage 93 Points, describing it as "aged nine months in French oak," a "modern, edgy white" offering "keen acidity and a spark of white pepper," with "salty pear and minerality" reinforcing "the vibrancy of lemon zest and garden herbs." A separate retailer's tasting describes the wine opening "with vibrant scents of lemon meringue, lime oil, floral jasmine and tuberose," taking on "a more tropical tone with pineapple and mango notes" as it warms, the palate showing "bright acidity" balanced with "cream soda and candied lemon rind," the creaminess extending "through the finish ending with a nice, complementary note of toasted baguette." This is genuinely rich, well-reviewed Russian River Valley Chardonnay — real tropical fruit depth balanced by cool-climate acidity, from a winemaker with two decades of Sonoma roots.
