Every bottle of Champagne holds an almost unimaginable number of bubbles — roughly 20 million of them, each one beginning its life at a microscopic point of nucleation at the base of the glass before rising, brief and resplendent, to burst at the surface. Jean-Charles Boisset built the entire concept of this wine around that specific number: No. XX, twenty in Roman numerals, a name that turns the science of effervescence itself into the wine's identity. "From the point of nucleation at the base of the glass, a bubble's life is short, but resplendent, as it rises and bursts at the surface," the house's own copy reads. "The millions of bubbles form a luxuriant cosmos in each glass of the effervescent elixir. This dazzling display is what has made Champagne renowned the world over."
JCB is the personal wine and spirits collection of Jean-Charles Boisset, produced under the broader Boisset Collection — France's third-largest wine group and Burgundy's largest wine producer — and built entirely around Boisset's own conviction that sparkling wine deserves a place in everyday life, not just special occasions. No. XX pours a delightful pale yellow, reminiscent of the soft glow of a summer sunset, with effervescence that forms a genuinely mesmerizing train of bubbles dancing gracefully through the glass. The nose is a delightful fusion of invigorating citrus — the tangy zest of ripe lemons and limes — mingling playfully with a subtle hint of delicate white flowers. Perfectly balanced by vibrant acidity, the palate delivers a lively, refreshing mouthfeel that's genuinely gourmet in character: exuberant, satisfying, and built for drinking often rather than saving for a single toast.
No. XX earned a Silver Medal at the 2025 Sommeliers Choice Awards — recognition that places it alongside the broader JCB Champagne portfolio's strong track record, which includes Double Gold honors for the house's other numbered Champagne releases at the same competition. This is Boisset's own numerically playful, genuinely food-friendly take on Champagne — a wine whose entire concept begins and ends with the simple, dazzling physics of the bubble itself.
JCB is the personal wine and spirits collection of Jean-Charles Boisset, produced under the umbrella of the Boisset Collection — the US office of Boisset, La Famille des Grands Vins, France's third-largest wine group and Burgundy's largest wine producer. Boisset's broader philosophy holds that Champagne and sparkling wine should be treated as an everyday pleasure rather than reserved exclusively for celebration, a sensibility that runs through the entire numbered JCB Champagne and Crémant de Bourgogne range.
No. XX takes its name directly from the Roman numeral for 20 — a reference to the approximately 20 million bubbles contained within a single bottle of Champagne. The wine presents a pale yellow hue and is produced according to traditional Champagne method, with the classic base-of-glass nucleation and rising bubble stream that defines the category's most fundamental visual signature. The finished wine earned a Silver Medal at the 2025 Sommeliers Choice Awards, held June 10, 2025.
