PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The Korrell family has been involved in wine production for more than 250 years, and its roots, the family says, trace back to Spain. The estate is in Bad Kreuznach, in the Nahe, one of Germany’s most diverse wine regions, and Paradies is its flagship vineyard, “the heart of the estate and the pride of our family.” The vineyard’s vines root deep into warm Muschelkalk (shell-limestone) and clay-marl soils, which give the wines both depth and a lithe, linear tension. The estate is certified organic, and the wine is fermented and aged in stainless steel and is vegan.

The 2020 Paradies Riesling Trocken is a dry Riesling of unusual depth. The estate’s own notes describe “an elegant and expressive bouquet of ripe peaches, apricots and juicy tangerines with delicate hints of honeydew melon and vanilla,” a palate that is “powerful yet elegant, complex and rich with juicy fruit, delicious acidity and subtle minerality,” and “a wine with an enormous ageing potential.” Markus Del Monego MW scored it 95+: “Bright yellow colour with green hue. Complex and aromatic nose reminiscent of ripe peaches and juicy apricots, fresh greengage, candied lemon peel, tangerine zest, hints of lime and white lilies in the background. On the palate juicy and well structured with crisp acidity, excellent mouthfeel, fine balance and aromatic depth, discreet salty minerality in the finish. An excellent wine with lingering citrus fruit and apricots, showing an exciting tension, complex with great length.”

Jancis Robinson’s Purple Pages (Paula Sidore, January 2022) noted that “despite a cornucopia of ripe orchard-fruit aromas, on the palate this Riesling is lithe and linear.” Another critic describes a “clear, lush and dense, very elegant and aromatic bouquet that reflects old vines as well as the deep, limestone and clayey marl soils,” a “full-bodied, elegant and pure, finely grippy and lemon-scented dry Riesling that is still very young but has the capacity to improve with bottle age.” It’s a dry Riesling that works with pork, poultry, shellfish, cured meats, and spicy food, and one of the best-regarded dry Rieslings of the Nahe.
