For many years, Lafite treated esteemed guests and friends to rare, impeccable old Armagnac casks, individually selected by the château's own winemaking team — a genuine, privately kept tradition that eventually became known outside the estate's own walls, with demand for these spirits reaching "a fever pitch" once word got out. Rather than keep the practice entirely private, the château began releasing a small number of precious bottles each year into the market — genuinely limited allocations, produced by the same organization behind Château Lafite itself, alongside Duhart-Milon, Rieussec, and L'Évangile.
