PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Lepanto 12 Year Old Solera Gran Reserva Brandy de Jerez is a refined Spanish brandy that beautifully expresses a marriage of Solera aging tradition and sherry cask complexity. Elegant and harmoniously balanced, it offers deep dried fruit, toasted oak, spice, and subtle wine-influenced nuance — a sophisticated choice for contemplative sipping or rich after-dinner pairings.
This Gran Reserva brandy hails from González Byass, a historic producer based in Jerez de la Frontera, Andalusia, Spain — a region globally revered for sherry wine and Brandy de Jerez production. Made from Palomino Fino grapes, the base wine is distilled into brandy and aged using the Solera system, a dynamic criaderas-and-solera method where younger spirits gradually blend with older reserves over time.
While labeled as “12 years,” the Solera process involves fractional blending across barrels of varying ages, giving the brandy an average age profile that comfortably exceeds the Solera Gran Reserva minimum. Aging takes place in American oak casks previously used for sherry (typically Fino Tío Pepe and sometimes older Oloroso casks), which impart subtle tannins, dried fruit echoes, and elegant oxidative character typical of Jerez spirits. This connection to sherry barrels is central to Brandy de Jerez’s heritage and contributes to Lepanto’s trademark depth and refinement.
This release has not been formally reviewed by major spirits or wine publications.
Nose:
Rich and expressive with caramel and vanilla leading, followed by dried fruit (raisins, figs) and a soft toasted oak spice. Underlying notes of toasted almonds and gentle oxidative sherry character add complexity and warmth.
Palate:
Medium-bodied and balanced, featuring raisins, toasted nuts, and honeyed dried fruit wrapped in a gentle layer of oak spice and wine-tempered sweetness. Subtle spice and leather notes mingle with refined almond and citrus peel accents, creating a layered journey across the palate.
Finish:
Long and silky with lingering dried fruit, warming oak, and a gentle nutty sweetness that invites slow savoring — characteristic of long Solera maturation and sherry-seasoned wood influence.
