PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Libélula means “dragonfly” in Spanish, and a dragonfly tops each bottle, a small, memorable design touch for a family-made tequila. The brand comes from a family-owned distillery in the Highlands of Jalisco, and the Añejo is described as “the same quality tequila from our family-owned distillery, aged to perfection.”
It’s made from 100% Blue Weber agave grown in the Highlands (Los Altos), produced in small batches with no additives or sweeteners, and rested for 14 months in used American oak ex-bourbon barrels, comfortably past the 12-month minimum for an añejo. Because there are no additives, the agave and the wood do all of the work, which keeps the tequila rounded without tasting heavy. It’s bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof).
The distillery’s tasting note is “exquisite layers of soft caramel, vanilla, and warm baking spices.” Retailers’ fuller descriptions find a nose of “cooked agave, vanilla bean, toasted oak, caramel, and subtle baking spice,” a palate of “butterscotch, honey, orange peel, dried fruit, and soft pepper” in a “rounded, silky profile with beautifully integrated oak influence,” and a finish that is “long, warm, and refined, with lingering vanilla, caramel, spice, and sweet agave character.” One distributor describes it as sweeter and more caramel-driven than a charred-oak, espresso-forward añejo like Espolòn. No independent critic scores were found.
It’s a smooth, easy-drinking, additive-free añejo that’s a good fit for customers who want to sip tequila neat but don’t want a heavy, oak-dominated style. Serve it neat or over a large cube, and let it warm slightly so the caramel and baking spice come through. It’s also a good base for an Añejo Old Fashioned.
