PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Gratien’s Cuvée Paradis Rosé is a refined, gastronomic Champagne that balances elegance, power, and finesse. It offers vibrant floral and red-fruit layers, mineral tension and creamy texture, ultimately presenting a style that works as both a standalone celebratory pour and a serious food wine.
The house Alfred Gratien, founded in 1864 in Épernay, maintains many traditional practices (e.g. use of oak fermentation, limited production)
Cuvée Paradis Rosé is made from 63% Chardonnay and 37% Pinot Noir, drawn entirely from Grand Cru vineyards
Fermentation and maturation occur in 228-liter oak casks (used up to four times) to give complexity and structure, while still preserving freshness (Gratien does not use malolactic fermentation)
The wine is aged on lees in bottle for six to seven years before release, allowing development of tertiary notes and refined mousse.
The rosé shows a salmon-pink color with copper reflections and an “extremely fine sparkle” described as “twinkling.”
| Aspect | Notes & Observations |
|---|---|
| Appearance | Salmon-pink with delicate copper highlights, fine and persistent bubble stream |
| Nose / Aroma | Jammy red and black berries, mandarin peel, saffron, juniper, with tertiary notes of toasted bread, caramel, tonka bean, even lobster bisque in extended aeration |
| Palate / Taste | Precise attack with bright acidity; creamy texture; interplay of chalk/mineral, saline tension, red fruit (strawberry, cherry), citrus threading and subtle bitter edge |
| Finish | Clean, lingering finish of saline minerality, gentle bitterness, and elegant fruit echo |
“minerally on the nose, with chalk and stone notes underscoring white peach and strawberry fruits, toasted brioche and lemon parfait … well-meshed texture, mouthwatering acidity.”
Serve: Optimal serving temperature is between 10 °C and 14 °C. Some producers and sources suggest decanting or serving in a carafe to allow aromas and structure to open.
Pairings:
• Shellfish with saffron sauces, langoustines, lobster or crab
• Veal fillet with chanterelles
• Salmon or tuna tartare
• White meats with creamy, truffle, or mushroom accents
• Fruit tarts, berry desserts, citrus influenced sweets
