M Red Wine is Marciano Estate's own dedicated showcase for Cabernet Franc — a grape that occupies a genuinely significant 35% of the plantings across the estate's 10-acre vineyard, considerably more than most Napa Valley properties devote to the variety. Rather than folding that Cabernet Franc into a supporting role, M Red Wine puts it front and center, blending the estate's densest, most powerful Cabernet Sauvignon fruit with the silkier texture and perfumed aromatics drawn from the estate's very best Cabernet Franc blocks. As the winery's own copy puts it: "M Red Wine is a rich and layered Bordeaux blend that balances the density and power of our vineyard's Cabernet Sauvignon with the silky texture and perfumed aromatics of our best blocks of Cabernet Franc. This wine's lush flavors and supple structure make it generous in its youth while allowing the wine to age gracefully for many years to come."
The 2019 vintage runs 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Petit Verdot — genuinely one of the more Cabernet Franc-forward blends coming out of Napa Valley today, from an estate whose vineyards were planted by David Abreu and whose consulting winemaking team includes Benoit Touquette of Realm and the legendary Michel Rolland.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate awarded a remarkable 97 Points, describing a wine "deep purple-black in color," bursting "with bombastic crème de cassis, blueberry pie and spice cake scents, followed hints of Indian spice, candied violets and dark chocolate, with a waft of menthol," the palate "concentrated, full-bodied" with "a velvety" texture and "a fantastic line of freshness supporting the generous, shimmering layers of blue and black fruits." The estate's own copy notes: "with 35% Cabernet Franc planted on the 10-acre vineyard at Marciano Estate, this M label showcases the extra proportion of this grape." This is genuinely exceptional, Cabernet Franc-driven Napa Valley wine — a real point of distinction within one of the region's most acclaimed boutique estates.
Marciano Estate M Red Wine 2019 is produced on the estate's 20-acre property southwest of St. Helena, Napa Valley, part of the historic Bourn estate dating to 1872. The vineyards were planted by David Abreu, with Cabernet Franc occupying a genuinely significant 35% of the estate's 10-acre vineyard — considerably more than typical Napa Valley plantings. The estate's winemaking team trained at Château Pétrus, Château Haut-Brion, La Mission Haut-Brion, and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti before returning to Napa to work with Andy Erickson; consulting winemakers include Benoit Touquette (Realm) and Michel Rolland.
The 2019 M Red Wine is a blend of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Petit Verdot, built specifically to showcase the estate's best Cabernet Franc blocks alongside its powerful, dense Cabernet Sauvignon fruit. Bottled in genuinely limited quantities.
