The Midleton Very Rare Dair Ghaelach Kilranelagh Wood — Tree No. 3 Irish Single Pot Still Whiskey is a part of a unique series of Irish Whiskey Expressions. This expression is an immersive homage to Ireland’s forests—melding intense forest-floor aromas with refined sweetness and pot-still depth. It offers a bright yet complex palate that evolves from pine and honey on the nose into layered fruit, spice, and oak-laced finesse. A compelling, high-proof whisky that’s both bold and elegant—perfect for contemplative sipping or showcasing Irish oak influence.
Series: Part of the Dair Ghaelach (“Irish Oak”) collection within the Midleton Very Rare line, each release is finished in virgin Irish oak casks sourced from the historic Kilranelagh Estate in County Wicklow. Tree No. 3 is one of those uniquely selected casks.
Base Spirit: Aged 15–28 years in American oak before being transferred to the Irish oak casks for roughly two additional years.
ABV: Bottled at 57.1% ABV (114.2 proof).
Nose
An evocative forest impression: fresh pine, floral honey, and ground pepper, unfolding into tropical and sweet fruits—lifted by herbal green tea, freshly mown hay, smoked almonds, creamy vanilla, and cinnamon spice.
Palate
Robust and vibrant initially, with dried chili and red bell pepper. It softens into a refined interplay of candied orange and crisp red apple, underpinned by persistent vanilla and cinnamon orange from the oak, and savory pot-still spices.
Finish
A long, elegant journey where oak and pot-still spice gracefully linger—smooth yet full of character.
Additional tasting notes from Dublin & Cork Duty Free highlight aromas of chocolate‑dipped honeycomb, caramelized red apples, quince jelly, coffee cake, vanilla cream, cedar notes, and flavors of plums, peaches, dried apricot, with a hint of chili oil and ginger—rounded off by delicate oak tannins and pot-still spice.
