PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Old Elk's first major release under new ownership arrives as a genuine trio, not a single bottle — three distinct expressions of the distillery's grain-driven philosophy, each aged a full decade, launched together on July 28, 2026, as Middle West Spirits' inaugural statement since acquiring Old Elk in May 2025. "We're excited to launch these whiskies with a very strong age statement," said Luis Gonzalez, Middle West's CCO. "Through this 10-year collection, we can offer a line of whiskies with exceptional quality while maintaining accessibility, something truly rare in the industry."
This bundle brings all three together: a Straight Bourbon built on an unusually high malted barley content, a Wheated Bourbon that pushes wheat further than most bourbons dare, and a Straight Wheat Whiskey built almost entirely from the grain itself. Tasted side by side, the three bottles offer a genuinely rare opportunity to explore how the same decade of aging, the same distillery, and the same underlying philosophy produce three completely different whiskeys — depending entirely on how the corn, wheat, rye, and malted barley are balanced against one another. This is the kind of comparative tasting experience serious whiskey drinkers actively seek out, and having all three together in one bundle makes that exploration effortless.
Mash Bill: 51% Corn · 34% Malted Barley · 15% Rye | Proof: 105 (52.5% ABV)
The flagship of the collection, and the boldest departure from convention: an unusually high proportion of malted barley — well beyond what most bourbon recipes carry — brings genuine smoothness and depth, balanced by rye-driven spice and the corn's familiar sweetness. After a full decade in the barrel, those elements have had real time to integrate. The distillery's own description calls it "robust yet remarkably approachable — smooth, balanced, and effortlessly sippable."
Mash Bill: 51% Corn · 46% Wheat · 3% Malted Barley | Proof: 105 (52.5% ABV)
Where the Straight Bourbon leans on malted barley, this sibling pushes wheat instead — 46% wheat content, drawing directly on Old Elk's own deep wheat whiskey expertise applied to a bourbon recipe. The elevated wheat is specifically credited with highlighting the corn's natural sweetness while contributing soft vanilla character from a full decade of barrel time. The result, per the distillery, is "a smooth and elevated profile" — genuinely different in character from the Straight Bourbon despite sharing the same corn-forward foundation.
Mash Bill: 96% Wheat · 4% Malted Barley | Proof: 103 (51.5% ABV)
The purest and most technically ambitious bottle in the trio — built almost entirely from wheat, a grain Old Elk's team has approached with the same rigor typically reserved for a serious rye whiskey. Wheat mash bills present real distilling challenges, much like rye, and rarely get this kind of patient, decade-long treatment. The distillery describes the result as "a vivacious and refreshing spirit that is reinventing what it means to be a sipping whiskey" — genuinely distinctive next to the two bourbons in this same collection.
No numerical critic scores are confirmed for these specific July 2026 releases at this time — all three are brand-new as of this collection's launch.
