PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Plantation Rum “Extreme Series” Barbados Vintage 2007 is a full-proof, single-vintage rum that leans into intensity and dessert-like richness. It’s lush, powerful, and deeply layered — think toasted coconut, dark sugar, tropical fruit, and polished oak — crafted for serious rum lovers who appreciate bold, cask-strength character.
This limited-edition release comes from Barbados, distilled at the historic West Indies Rum Distillery. It is made from molasses and produced using a combination of pot and column stills, allowing both weight and elegance in the final spirit.
The 2007 vintage follows Plantation’s signature dual-maturation approach. First, the rum is aged for several years in Barbados in ex-bourbon barrels under tropical conditions, where heat and humidity drive deep interaction with oak. It is then shipped to Europe for extended continental aging in additional ex-bourbon casks before a final polishing period in former Cognac barrels.
Bottled at full proof — around 58% ABV — with no dilution and no added sugar, this “Extreme Series” expression is intended to show the rum as close to the cask as possible: raw, concentrated, and highly characterful.
As of now, there are no widely published professional reviews or scores from major spirits critics or magazines specific to Plantation “Extreme Series” Barbados Vintage 2007. Coverage of this bottling comes primarily from enthusiast communities, specialized rum clubs, and retailer tasting notes rather than formal critical channels.
Among dedicated rum drinkers, the bottle has gained a reputation for being rich, dessert-toned, and impressively balanced for its high proof, often mentioned as a standout for fans of full-strength Barbados rum. However, until major critics formally review it, it should be regarded as a cult favorite among enthusiasts rather than a critic-scored benchmark.
Nose:
Intense and inviting, with waves of toasted coconut, vanilla bean, and warm butterscotch. Underneath are notes of dark demerara sugar, banana foster, baking spice, roasted nuts, and a hint of cocoa and coffee bean.
Palate:
Full-bodied and deeply flavored. Rich molasses, toffee, and crème brûlée lead, followed by ripe tropical fruit (banana, pineapple), toasted almond, and layers of nutmeg, clove, and gentle peppery warmth. The high proof amplifies flavor without feeling harsh when sipped slowly, giving a dense, chewy texture.
Finish:
Long, warming, and slightly drying. Dark chocolate, charred oak, tobacco leaf, roasted nuts, and lingering molasses sweetness trail off gradually, leaving a lasting impression of spiced dessert and well-seasoned oak.
