PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Ridge 2022 Geyserville is a bold and elegant field‐blend red wine that pairs ripe fruit intensity with refined structure and bright acidity. It offers the richness of California Zinfandel culture while remaining layered and cellar‐worthy—whether enjoyed now or stowed away for future development.
Origins & Craftsmanship
Hailing from the Alexander Valley in Sonoma County, California, this wine comes from Ridge’s historic Geyserville vineyard, known for its old‐vine Zinfandel planted in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The 2022 vintage is composed of approximately 67% Zinfandel, 20% Carignane, 10% Petite Sirah and 3% Mataro (Mourvèdre). The grapes were hand-harvested, fermented in small lots using native yeasts and matured for 16 months in American oak barrels, of which roughly one quarter are new. The winemaking approach emphasizes minimal intervention and expressions of site, vine age and varietal character.
Critics Reviews
One respected journal rated it 94 points, describing it as “deeply structured and bright with acidity… black cherry and dark plum flavours take on licorice, green peppercorn and Asian five‐spice accents as this builds toward broad‐shouldered tannins.”
Another commentary praised the 2022 blend for its “kaleidoscopic aromas of boysenberry jam, grilled beef, dried lavender, iron and violet… the texture is silky, with bursts of juicy acidity and a long, spicy finish.”
Tasting Profile
Nose: Deep ruby-purple colour opens to aromas of black cherry, dark plum and boysenberry jam, followed by hints of dried lavender, iron-stone minerality and sweet baking spice.
Palate: Medium to full‐bodied with bright acidity driving flavours of macerated blackberries and raspberry compote, touched by cocoa, licorice root and peppery herb. The tannins are firm yet ripe, offering structure and poise.
Finish: Long and persistent, with dark fruit echoing into a nuanced wave of smoked cinnamon, peppercorn and cedar‐like oak.

"The 2022 Geyserville is a blend of 67% Zinfandel, 20% Carignane, 10% Petite Sirah and 3% Mataro. It has kaleidoscopic aromas of boysenberry jam, grilled beef, dried lavender, iron, violet and peach. The medium-bodied palate features generous, floral flavors. It has a silky texture, bursts of mouthwatering acidity and a long, spicy finish. The 2022 is notably polished, and its 20% new American oak is very well integrated." Robert Parker 94 Points
"Dark and intense on the nose, this wine displays aromas of crushed black cherry, black plum and crème de cassis. The palate brings flavors of macerated cherries and blackberries, spiced fig compote, cedar and a decadent plush texture. Precision-balanced acidity runs through the finish. " Wine Enthusiast 93 Points
"A normal Zinfandel-dominated blend of 67% Zinfandel, 20% Carignan, 10% Petite Sirah, and the rest Mataro, the 2022 Geyserville sports a healthy ruby/plum hue (it's semi-opaque) as well as a rocking nose of ripe plums, blackberries, roasted herbs, pepper, and violets. It's beautifully textured on the palate and has medium to full-bodied richness, a deep, layered mid-palate, and perfectly ripe tannins. It's a beauty, as well as one of the standouts in the lineup in 2022. Don't miss it.." Jeb Dunnuck 95 Points
"Deeply structured and bright with acidity, this combines power with grace. Black cherry and dark plum flavors take on licorice, green peppercorn and Asian five-spice accents as this builds toward broad-shouldered tannins. Zinfandel, Carignane, Petite Sirah and Mataro. Drink now through 2035. 7,500 cases made.." Wine Spectator 94 Points
