PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This release from the Single Rickhouse series offers a striking expression of place — namely the historic Camp Nelson E rickhouse — and arrives as one of the boldest bourbons from Russell’s Reserve yet. With its high proof, rich barrel influence and refined aging environment, it’s crafted for deep sipping rather than casual mixing. If you obtain a bottle, treat it as a premium pour deserving of time and attention.

Origins & Craftsmanship

The Single Rickhouse Collection from Russell’s Reserve explores how the “where” of maturation — specific rickhouses and floors — influences bourbon character. This particular edition draws exclusively from barrels aged on the 5th floor of the Camp Nelson E rickhouse (built 1946) in Jessamine County, Kentucky, situated near the Kentucky River with deeper shade and cooler micro-climate. The whiskey uses the house mash bill of 75% corn, 13% rye and 12% malted barley, is non-chill filtered, and bottled at 128 proof (64% ABV). While no formal age statement is listed, it is reported the barrels were matured for at least 10 years.

Critics Reviews

  • In a review by bourbon writer Drew Beard, this edition was described as “a beautiful, deep, rich amber-colored bourbon; the nose opens with rich vanilla, toffee, fig and molasses, the palate gives caramel, green apple, oak spice and the finish lingers sweet oak and black pepper.”

  • Blogger Nick Anderson (AmongstTheWhiskey.com) commented "the Fifth-floor Camp Nelson-E house offers a cooler aging site, creating a bourbon with dark-fruit richness and baked-oak complexity, though proof is formidable."

  • Reports from Food & Wine note that this bottle “marks Russell’s Reserve’s highest-proof offering to date, delivering bold spice and dark fruit layered with the class of the brand.”

Tasting Profile

  • Nose: Rich amber hue; aromas of vanilla bean, caramel-syrup, maple, figs, dried orange peel, toasted oak and sweet cola.

  • Palate: Full and viscous: dried cherries, black-currant jam, mint, graham cracker, nutmeg spice and deep char oak.

  • Finish: Long and warming; lingering warm oak, molasses, black pepper, and a soft echo of leather and old tobacco.
