The Shakara 12 Year Old Thai Rum is a refined and expressive rum that artfully blends tropical aging influence with fine structure. Deeply flavorful yet elegant, it offers a compelling alternative to many Caribbean or Latin American aged rums—rich in character and beautifully balanced.
Produced in the province of Nakhon Pathom in Thailand, this rum is distilled from molasses on a column still and matured for a full 12 years in ex-bourbon casks. The tropical climate—high humidity and consistently warm temperatures—accelerates maturation in a distinctive way, creating complex character despite its relative age. Bottled at 45.7% ABV (91.4 Proof) and free of additives or colouring, it honours the legacy of sugarcane cultivation in Southeast Asia.
Nose: Aromas of brown sugar, toasted coconut, toasted macadamia nuts and vanilla bean, layered with hints of lemongrass, dark chocolate and espresso roast.
Palate: Smooth and full-flavoured—rich toffee and butterscotch meet mango and papaya, followed by almond butter, sesame oil and cinnamon spice. A clean oak depth supports the tropical fruit.
Finish: Medium to long, warm and subtly exotic—lichi and peach pit linger alongside vanilla, gentle pepper spice and a refined oily texture that echoes its tropical rum heritage.
