PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Glen Grant is a Speyside distillery in Rothes, known for a light, fruity, floral, nutty style, and for being one of the most popular single malts in Italy, though it’s far less often seen at older ages and cask strength. Independent bottlers, such as Signatory Vintage, are the main way to find it that way. Signatory is an Edinburgh family business, founded in 1988 by Andrew Symington and his brother, whose name came from the original idea that each bottle would be signed by a different celebrity.
This single cask was distilled on January 25, 2000, and matured for 22 years, then finished in a sherry cask before being bottled on March 17, 2022, in Signatory’s Cask Strength Collection. It’s bottled at its natural strength of 57.3% ABV (114.6 proof), non-chill filtered, with natural colour. Only 646 bottles were produced. A close sibling bottled for The Whisky Exchange, at 57.1% with a first-fill sherry butt finish, was reviewed with notes of “dried herbs, waxes, leathers, dried honeys... hugely mineral and also impressively citric too.” Cask-to-cask differences are real, so treat that as a clue to the style, not a prediction.
Cask-specific tasting notes and reviews aren’t published for this bottling. The distillery’s community profile, drawn from 70 archived reviews across Glen Grant whiskies, links it most with fruit, vanilla, and honey, with figs, marzipan, banana, and almonds standing out above the category average, and oak, floral, and pepper notes. A sherry finish typically adds dried fruit, spice, and a nutty depth to Glen Grant’s fresh orchard-fruit core. Expect a mature, fruity, sherry-touched Speysider at full strength, where a few drops of water will open the fruit and floral notes.
It’s a rare, cask-strength 22-year-old single cask from a distillery that’s seldom bottled at this strength, and a natural pick for sherried Speyside fans and independent-bottling collectors. Enjoy neat first, then with a little water.
