PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Liquid gold from Springbank, quite literally: this vintage Campbeltown single malt was distilled in 1994 and rested for more than three decades before finally reaching bottle in 2026, matured across a genuinely unusual combination of casks — 80% bourbon, 10% sherry, and 10% red wine — that together build a whisky of remarkable depth, balance, and complexity. Only 1,180 bottles were produced worldwide, making this a true collector's item from one of Scotland's most fiercely independent and most quietly revered distilleries.
Springbank has operated in Campbeltown since 1828, run continuously by the J & A Mitchell family since 1837, and remains one of the very last distilleries in Scotland that performs every single stage of production on its own site — floor malting, distillation, maturation, and bottling, all in-house, a practice that has become genuinely rare in the modern Scotch industry. The spirit itself undergoes Springbank's own distinctive "two-and-a-half-times" distillation, a method that sits deliberately between the traditional double and triple distillation approaches, from lightly peated malt.
More than three decades in cask have given this 1994 vintage a genuinely layered, mature character. The nose opens with tropical fruit — dried pineapple and mango — alongside ripe melon and honey, joined by an earthy, unmistakably "old school Springbank" quality and sandalwood. The palate delivers caramelised lemon meringue and custard cream, more mango and pineapple, wood, and toffee popcorn, closing on a long, earthy finish with coconut, fresh basil, and gorse bush, carrying real coastal character throughout. Bottled at 45.3% ABV, non-chill filtered, and with no added colouring, this release preserves the fully authentic character of exceptionally well-aged Springbank — precisely the kind of bottle that longtime collectors of the distillery wait years to see come to market.
Springbank Distillery was established in 1828 in Campbeltown, on Scotland's Kintyre peninsula, and has been run continuously by the J & A Mitchell family since 1837 — one of the longest unbroken family ownerships in the entire Scotch whisky industry. Springbank remains one of the very few distilleries in Scotland that carries out every stage of its production on the same site, from its own traditional floor malting through distillation, maturation, and bottling, a level of vertical self-sufficiency now rare across the category. The spirit is made from lightly peated malt and undergoes a distinctive "two-and-a-half-times" distillation process, positioned deliberately between conventional double and triple distillation.
This particular release was distilled in 1994 and matured for more than three decades before bottling in 2026, aged across a specific combination of 80% bourbon casks, 10% sherry casks, and 10% red wine casks — a genuinely unusual cask composition that layers tropical fruit and honeyed sweetness from the bourbon wood against deeper spice and dark fruit notes from the sherry and red wine casks. The finished whisky was limited to just 1,180 bottles worldwide, bottled at 45.3% ABV, non-chill filtered and presented with no added colouring.
