PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This 2024 Tierras Negras Single Estate Añejo from Tequila Ocho is a beautifully expressive tequila that combines the estate’s agave-rich purity with elegant barrel aging. It’s sophisticated enough to sip neat and layered enough for lovers of fine tequila to appreciate the terroir nuances of the Los Altos highlands.
Crafted by Tequila Ocho in the Los Altos region of Jalisco, Mexico, this release comes from the “Tierras Negras” estate—named for its distinctive grey-clay, stone-strewn soils. The label denotes both the harvest year (2024) and the single-estate origin, ensuring transparency of terroir. The tequila is made from 100% mature blue Weber agave, harvested at peak maturity, cooked in traditional ovens, fermented naturally and distilled in copper pot stills. After distillation, this expression is aged (as an añejo) in ex-American whiskey barrels for an extended period, so it benefits from wood influence while retaining fresh agave character. Bottled at around 40% ABV (80 proof) for this particular vintage.
Nose: A rich aroma of golden cooked agave, caramelized sugar and honeyed vanilla opens the glass. Next comes soft notes of dried apricot, toasted almond and a hint of citrus peel (lime and orange). Subtle herbal touches (mint-leaf, spearmint) and clay-dust minerality from the estate soil emerge on the background.
Palate: Smooth and medium-bodied. The roasted agave sweetness carries through with orchard-fruit flesh (white peach, pear), followed by barley-toffee, light oak spice (cinnamon, warmed nutmeg) and a chalky mineral streak. The Tierras Negras terroir shows up as grey-clay dryness and a fine pepper-grain finish.
Finish: Clean, lingering and elegant. The sweetness recedes into soft oak tannin, almond skin bitterness and a gentle herbal-mint thread. The finish leaves a refreshed minerality and invites another sip.
