Josh Meyer, Spirits Advisor at Berry Bros. & Rudd, offered a genuinely thoughtful take on the 2024 release: "quite different from the Ruadh Mhors of yesteryear, this seven year-old demonstrates peat at its most subtle and sweet. An excellent dram for anyone who wishes to be transported to a more rugged land in the way that only a peated whisky can, without forgoing the elegance and vanillin sweetness for which Glenturret is sought-after. Light, lingering and very mouth-watering." Master of Malt's tasting of the 2023 release found "aromatic peat smoke" breathing "through notes of marmalade, vanilla, and spiced fruit," developing "vanilla fudge with orchard fruit and roasted nuts, as well as more hearty smoke," the earthy peat lingering "for a good while." Not every reviewer has been won over, and that honest range is worth sharing — Whiskybase's community found the smoke "present in the smell, mineral with an aspect of damp earth, quite dirty, but not maritime," with "a lot of sweetness, pineapple syrup," though concluding overall the whisky felt "a bit thin," with the alcohol "dominating after the smoke" despite its comparatively low strength. This is a genuinely accessible, well-regarded introduction to peated Scotch — soft and approachable rather than aggressive, though reception on its depth genuinely varies by palate.

"The smoke is present in the smell, mineral with an aspect of damp earth, quite dirty, but not maritime. Maybe some smoke flavor with a little bit of rubber. There is also a lot of sweetness, pineapple syrup. It's nice, but not particularly exciting and overall a bit thin. The smoke is present in the taste, it has a dirty aspect, but it also goes away quite quickly. The alcohol can be felt despite the low strength; it burns a little."
