The Macallan’s A Night on Earth series began in 2022 as a whisky for the New Year, an annual, globe-trotting collection that celebrates how different places welcome the new year. The first release honored a Scottish Hogmanay, and then came editions inspired by the Chinese New Year (The Journey), Jerez de la Frontera in Spain, and New Zealand (The First Light), each with its own artist and its own packaging. The fifth, The Finale, closes the series in New Orleans.
The 2026 edition celebrates the music, culture, and New Year’s Eve traditions of New Orleans, in collaboration with New Orleans-born visual artist Hill Spriggins, who created three artworks inspired by the city’s celebrations, cultural diversity, and community spirit for the packaging. The Macallan describes her art as bringing her “memories of bright lights, cherished moments and rhythmic street life alive.” Diane Stuart, senior whisky maker at The Macallan, said: “With A Night on Earth, The Finale, we wanted to capture the unmistakable warmth and character of New Orleans through flavour.”
The whisky is a non-age-statement Speyside single malt matured in a combination of sherry-seasoned American and European oak casks, bottled at 43% ABV (86 proof), with natural colour. In Macallan’s description, it’s “a delicate balance of sweetness and warmth, through notes of rich spice, creamy vanilla and vibrant orange.” The tasting notes: a nose of “bright orange peel with warming spices (cinnamon, star anise and clove), layered with treacle, dark chocolate and dried berries,” and a palate of “nutmeg, creamy vanilla, almond praline, rich spice, dried fruit, cherries and sweet oak,” with a rich, lingering finish. The color is a vibrant brass.
It was released on November 3, 2026, in a collectible illustrated tube, and no independent reviews have been published yet. It’s an easy gift for the holidays, an attractive piece for series collectors who have the earlier editions, and an accessible, spiced, sherried Macallan at 43% for customers who want the brand without the high prices of its older expressions. Enjoy it neat, or with a few drops of water, or in an Old Fashioned, where the orange and spice pair beautifully.
