PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Torabhaig The Sound of Sleat Batch Strength is a robust and exhilarating expression from the Isle of Skye that amplifies the distillery’s signature “Smoke with Taste” ethos. Bottled at high strength with rich coastal smoke, maritime complexity, and deep oak spice, it delivers an immersive whisky experience for aficionados seeking bold flavour and expressive terroir.
Produced at Torabhaig Distillery in Teangue, Sleat on the Isle of Skye, this cask-strength release is part of the Legacy Series, a collection charting the distillery’s evolving house style since its founding in 2017 — the first new licensed distillery on Skye in nearly two centuries. Torabhaig’s philosophy centers on “Smoke with Taste”: a rugged yet refined peat character tempered by meticulous distillation and maturation practices. The whisky is crafted from a blend of Concerto and Laureate peat-malted barley peated to over 78 PPM, fermented for extended periods with Pinnacle MG yeast, and matured exclusively in Quercus alba American oak casks — including first-fill bourbon, virgin oak, and seasoned barrels — to marry smoke, spice, and malt sweetness. The cask-strength bottling, around 60.2 % ABV, is presented without chill-filtration or added colouring, preserving full natural flavour intensity and depth straight from the cask.
There are no formal professional critic scores from major spirits publications yet for this specific cask-strength release. Independent reviewer tasting notes highlight its rich intensity, layered complexity, and balanced interplay of smoke, spice, and fruit, affirming Torabhaig’s rising reputation among new Scottish distilleries.
Nose:
Powerful and evocative, with sea-salt breeze and coastal smoke framing brighter facets of orange peel, apricot, and sweet barley sugar, underscored by hints of tobacco, honey, and vanilla.
Palate:
Full-bodied and warming, showcasing bonfire embers and peat smoke intertwined with spicy oak, waxy texture, and rich honeyed sweetness. Coastal mineral notes and white pepper add dimension, while dried fruit — think peach and apricot — emerges on the mid-palate.
Finish:
Long and invigorating, with lingering smoky warmth, peppery spice, and hints of sea spray and oak, closing with a smoky echo that recalls the windswept Skye coastline.
