Villadoria was established in 1959 by Pietro Lanzavecchia, though the family's actual winemaking heritage in the region stretches back even further, to the late 1800s, when it began as a vine plant nursery. The estate cultivates 25 hectares in the heart of the Langhe, with Nebbiolo ruling over every other variety planted there, now guided by third-generation winemakers Daniele Lanzavecchia and his daughter Paola, who blend traditional methods with modern technology and a genuine emphasis on sustainable practice.
The estate's own broader Barbaresco program is designed to be, per one Canadian retailer's copy, "a Barbaresco accessible at all levels" — combining tradition with modern technique to produce wine that seduces "with woody, fruity and spicy accents while the tannic structure lends energy to an elegant, harmonious and devoid of coarseness whole."
Wine Enthusiast's Jeff Porter reviewed the 2020 vintage directly, in a genuinely evocative blind tasting: "aromas of macerated cherry, rosebud jam and wild thyme drive the nose of this pretty Barbaresco. Flavors of cranberry, spiced orange peel and dried leaves create a balanced palate." He recommended the wine be enjoyed "now through 2035" — a genuinely long drinking window reflecting real structural balance. This is genuinely accessible, well-reviewed Barbaresco — floral and aromatic on the nose, with real freshness and balance carrying through to a long finish, and priced considerably more approachably than many of the appellation's more famous single-cru names.
Villadoria was established in 1959 by Pietro Lanzavecchia, with family winemaking roots in the region dating to the late 1800s, when the operation began as a vine plant nursery. The estate cultivates 25 hectares in the heart of the Langhe, Piedmont, primarily planted to Nebbiolo, now led by Daniele Lanzavecchia and his daughter Paola, who combine traditional winemaking with modern technology and sustainable farming practices.
The 2020 vintage of Villadoria Barbaresco is made entirely from Nebbiolo grapes.

The palate seduces with woody, fruity and spicy accents while the tannic structure lends energy to an elegant, harmonious and devoid of coarseness whole."
