Widow Jane The Vaults 15 Year is a refined and thoughtfully crafted bourbon that balances deep maturity with real drinkability. With its 15-year age statement, distinct finishing and elevated proof, it presents complexity, sophistication, and a memorable sip that stands out without veering into over-wrought territory.
This expression is part of the “Vaults” series from Widow Jane (Brooklyn, New York). It begins as a blend of straight bourbons aged for 15 years (or more) sourced from multiple U.S. states. After the long maturation, the selected barrels are finished for a period in rare wood (such as Amburana) to impart unique spice and flavour layers. The bourbon is proofed with mineral-rich limestone water from the Rosendale Mines in Upstate New York, non-chill filtered, and bottled at 99 proof (49.5% ABV) – giving both strength and finesse.
Nose: Rich dark amber colour with aromas of amaretto cookie, fig leaf, cherry blossom, honey graham cracker and cinnamon bark.
Palate: Smooth and balanced with bread-and-butter richness, brown sugar, roasted apple and leather, followed by warming spice (cinnamon, clove), oak tannin and subtle mineral underpinning.
Finish: Long and composed. Notes of black licorice, honeysuckle, coconut-macaroon, caramelised carrots, satsuma (a type of citrus), and charred oak linger with refinement.
