PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Most tequila gets cut with water before bottling — a standard, entirely conventional step that brings the spirit down from whatever proof it emerges from the still at to a more approachable, market-standard 80 proof. Wild Common's Still Strength Blanco skips that step entirely. This is tequila exactly as it comes off the copper pot still at the legendary Cascahuin Distillery in El Arenal, Jalisco — no dilution, no filtration, nothing removed and nothing added. The brand's own slogan says it plainly: "Nothing Added, Nothing Lost."

Cascahuin has been distilling in El Arenal — the town locals call the "Gateway to Tequila Country" — since 1904, and the operation remains a genuine family affair under Master Distiller Salvador Rosales Trejo, known simply as "Chava," working alongside his father Salvador Rosales Torres and his brother Benjamin. Together they've built one of the most respected reputations in all of agave spirits for sustainability, transparency, and an unwavering commitment to traditional method. For Wild Common's Still Strength expression, mature Blue Weber agave is cooked in brick ovens, then crushed using a deliberate blend of traditional tahona stone-wheel milling and modern roller milling — a combination that captures both rustic texture and technical clarity. Fermentation relies entirely on native yeast, and the spirit is double distilled in copper pot stills before going straight into the bottle. The team unanimously chose to release this specific tequila at 50% ABV / 100 proof, a decision made deliberately for the big aromas, textures, and flavors that natural cask strength alone can deliver.

The result is genuinely intense without sacrificing balance. Wild Common's own tasting notes promise bright citrus, cinnamon, and anise leading the way, wrapped in a velvety mouthfeel — "long, warm, and complex," built specifically for agave purists holding themselves to the highest standard. The Barrel Tap found roasted agave, fresh lime zest, crushed mint, and subtle salinity on the nose, developing into earthy agave, white pepper, citrus peel, and cucumber on the palate, closing crisp and dry with a peppery lift and long-lasting agave sweetness. San Francisco Tequila Shop described "an immediate explosion of sweet, slow-roasted agave and wet cement," surprisingly creamy and viscous despite the elevated proof, balanced by savory minerals, anise, and a hint of peppermint. One dedicated Agave Matchmaker reviewer, tasting blind, called it "amazing for a high proof — didn't get a lot of alcohol, agave still coming through, fruit, anise, very well balanced," ultimately raising their own rating from 88 to 90 points and calling it "excellent value." This is undiluted, unfiltered tequila the way the Rosales family has always believed it should be experienced.

Origins & Craftsmanship

Wild Common Tequila is produced at the Cascahuin Distillery (NOM 1123), founded in 1904 in El Arenal, Jalisco — a historic town known as the "Gateway to Tequila Country," surrounded by vast fields of blue agave and home to some of the region's most storied distilling traditions. The distillery is led by Master Distiller Salvador Rosales Trejo, known as "Chava," continuing a family legacy alongside his father, Salvador Rosales Torres, and his brother, Benjamin — three generations working together under a shared mission of sustainability, transparency, and traditional production methods.

The Still Strength Blanco begins with mature 100% Blue Weber agave, cooked entirely in traditional brick ovens to draw out the plant's natural sugars. The cooked agave is crushed using a deliberate blend of distillates from traditional tahona milling and modern roller milling — a dual-process approach that combines the textural, terroir-forward character of stone-wheel extraction with the technical precision of roller milling. Fermentation relies exclusively on native yeast, and the wash is double distilled in copper pot stills. Unlike Wild Common's standard Blanco, this expression is bottled directly at still strength — straight from the still with no dilution and no filtration — landing at 50% ABV / 100 proof, a strength the team chose unanimously specifically to preserve the tequila's full aromatic and flavor intensity. The finished spirit is verified 100% additive-free by Tequila Matchmaker, with no added sugars, glycerin, coloring, or flavoring of any kind.

Tasting Profile

Nose
An immediate wave of roasted, slow-cooked agave, joined by fresh lime zest, crushed mint, and subtle salinity — a mineral, "wet cement" quality reflecting the terroir of the Jalisco Lowlands. Sweet overripe stone fruits and unleavened bread add warmth, alongside cinnamon, anise, and a distinct punch of black peppercorn.

Palate
Surprisingly creamy and viscous despite the elevated 100 proof — cooked agave sweetness leads, quickly balanced by earthy, savory minerals. Baked apples, citrus peel, and cucumber add brightness, while white pepper, anise, and a hint of peppermint build genuine complexity. The high proof amplifies every note without ever overwhelming the palate.

Finish
Crisp and dry, with a peppery lift carrying into long-lasting agave sweetness. The finish evolves from an initial spicy, alcoholic warmth into a sustained, satisfying close — long, warm, and complex, exactly as the distillery intended.
