Turley’s 2023 Juvenile is a bold, juicy, and exuberantly expressive Zinfandel. It captures the energy of bright red and blue fruit, warm spice, and lively structure. It’s immediately approachable but also has enough backbone to evolve over the medium term.
The Juvenile bottling is Turley’s vineyard‐blend Zinfandel drawn from younger vines (roughly 6 to 25 years old) planted within its signature old-vine vineyard sites across California.
While Turley typically emphasizes single-vineyard designations, Juvenile is crafted by tagging and selecting younger vine blocks within those parcels and fermenting them separately.
In 2023, Juvenile was made via native yeast fermentations, aged for 12 months, predominantly in used oak barrels (95 % used), with 80 % French oak and 20 % American oak.
The wine is bottled unfined, preserving texture and character.
The 2023 version carries an ABV of 15.2 %.
Nose: Bright and generous, with notes of black cherry, raspberry, briar patch, and peppery spice. Lavender, new leather, and a touch of savory earth deepen the bouquet.
Palate: The entry is juicy and fruit-driven—dark berries and red plum framed by warm baking spices and subtle oak influence. The wine carries moderate weight, balanced by an underlying freshness and gently chewy texture.
Finish: The finish is lively and fairly long, ending with snappy tannins, a spicy pepper note, and a hint of briar or savagery that keeps the wine from feeling too plush.

"Though the vast majority of our wines are single vineyard designates, Juvenile is actually composed of a variety of young vines that have been replanted in several of our old vine sites. We tag the vine when we replant it so as not to mix the brand new vine with its much older neighbors, then pick these young vines separately and make a distinct wine. The vines that make up Juvenile range in age from about 6-25 years, and we pull from 18 of our best vineyards across California, including Hayne, Ueberroth, Pesenti, Salvador, Vineyard 101, Fredericks and Kirschenmann."
