The Language of Yes 2022 Syrah “En Passerillage” Rancho Real Vineyard, Santa Maria Valley, is a compelling blend of finesse and energy—peppery and floral like a Northern Rhône, yet distinctly Californian. With its vivid aromatics, tensioned structure, and expressive fruit, it’s a deeply engaging wine that showcases Randall Grahm’s terroir-driven style at its best.
Sourced from Rancho Réal Vineyard in Santa Maria Valley, the wine features two distinctive techniques:
En passerillage (post-harvest drying) to concentrate flavors.
Co-fermented blend of 82% Syrah with 18% Viognier, including 50% whole-cluster fermentation, adding depth and structure.
Aged 12 months in used barriques, then bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Aromas
Explosive notes of candied violets, blackberry, plum, a hint of toffee, and white peppercorn’s signature spice
Palate
Medium-bodied and expansive, offering black cherry, spiced plums, blue fruits, and liquorice. Cola spice, wild herbs, and cocoa emerge over firm, taut tannins that settle into lingering waves of dark berry fruit.
Structure
Bright acidity and stony texture (struck flint) give it an elegant lift; well-integrated baking spices add finesse
Finish & Aging Potential
Complex and long-lasting. Critics recommend a drinking window of 2024–2034 for optimal development
